Speakers Corner hosts biggest demo in British History

They left Embankment and Goodge Street at 12 noon and the last arrived at 6.30 pm. Estimates of up to 2 million demonstrators were made with the Police estimating 750,000, even the police figures make it the largest demonstration in British History.

After the attempt to ban the demonstration from Hyde Park's Speakers' Corner, a wave of protests from all directions rained down on Downing Street and Tessa Jowell, the Minister of Culture forcing them to give in to demands to holds the demo there.

We can state with certainty that what we are seeing is the awakening of the British public to political life, every social group was there in the freezing winds. It will not be the last such giant protests.

Now is the time to force home the right to speak and gather at Speakers Corner which is written in law, yet trampled on by the Park authorities and the Government who make commercial deals to which occupy Speakers Corner and deprive us of our place of lawful assembly.

What if we want to hold a demo when they have a summer of pop concerts?

It was clear when the government tried to ban the demo that there is no other location able to holds to many in central London.

We demand a ban on all Pop concerts and commercial ventures from Hyde Park! Defend the 1872 act that grants us the right to Speakers Corner!
